Inspiring Hope
Our Mission
We aim to instill hope in children and young adults and to inspire them through the opportunity for higher education and mentorship, while building on their confidence and sense of well-being.
Our Story...
Walking carefree through the school gate, keeping pace with the others in her group, she chanced to turn and glance, only to catch a glimpse of a boy not much younger than she casting a longing look towards the school. Why, she thought to herself, why would anyone long to go to school? To her, most days were nothing more than counting hours before she could run back home to play with her friends.
Well, the years passed, and soon enough, this girl finished school and went on to pursue a professional degree. She helped raise a family, never having felt that she was more fortunate than most and that her path in life was one that not many others shared ─ not because of a lack of desire, but on account of being born on the wrong side of life’s equation.
Till, when stepping into the taxi to take her back to her childhood home on one of her returns from overseas, she happened to see the same eyes looking back at her as her car whizzed by. Eyes that belonged to a man about her age, pushing a cart laden with odds and ends he hoped someone might buy. And, by his side, holding onto his leg was his daughter, looking out with the same hope her dad once had those many years ago.
The next morning when she looked back at a life filled with many blessings, she saw the part that was missing, the only part that could really make her life whole ─ no, not hers alone, but those of most others around her.
So, she shared her idea with her husband and children and sat back after dinner listening with a sense of wonder as their son and daughter enthusiastically blurted, let’s name it Rajim. And shortly thereafter they walked into a long and fruitful conversation with two of their friends about their idea of Rajim Foundation, with the hope that no child or person would have to see their longing to learn stay unfulfilled, only to be passed on to the next generation as no more than an intangible hope to be borne like a burden.
This Foundation wants to be there to help support children and people like that boy from long ago get the opportunity they so deserve to learn and take their own place in life and to also befriend and mentor them on their individual journeys. We believe that no person is any less than another and deserves to be given a fair chance in life. Chance, though, is not passive, and each of us is called on to lend a helping hand to our neighbor in need. What we hope to give as a Foundation is not largesse but passing on what we ourselves have received.
Much later, as she lay down that night, thinking of that boy and his daughter in her mind’s eye, she heard herself whisper - come, walk with me, how much lighter the load will be.
